What should you do about an online stalker that knows where you live?

My opinion is, that you should cut off all contact with that person, and make everything you have private , or delete it ex. make your facebook only available to friends and family, delete your msn etc. Also, if you do bump into each other, avoid telling them anything else about yourself.However, you could just go to the police, and tell them what's going on, but it could be a little akward haing police around.
