If the fear of planes is actually lived as a phobia, it is possible to follow a treatment called desensitization. Desensitization includes a progressive exposition to the fear-inducing stimulus. As such, the therapist will usually create a list with the patient stimulus related to the object that creates a stress and will order these stimuli according to the amount of fear they provoke. Then, the patient is gradually exposed to each stimuli, in a controlled environment, until the stress and fear experienced decrease to a tolerable level.
