The first thing you need to realise is that you can tell people. Talk to your doctor; they are the first person you should contact if you think you may have depression. They can refer you to a proper counsellor or therapist, and also help with providing any necessary medications. After that, just work with both to get it under control and get rid of it.

Tell someone anyway. That is the only way to get help. Find someone you can trust at home or at school, or go talk to a doctor.

I have had suicidal thoughts since the 1970s, but only had a plan once (in 2013). I was completely unable to tell anyone of these thoughts until 1996, when I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. So I had to cope with them entirely by myself for more than 20 years.

The truly important thing is if they are just thoughts or workable plans.

If it is just thoughts it is possible to work out personal coping mechanisms to try to ignore them (e.g. read a book, get busy at work or studying, pretend that they are not your thoughts but that something other than you is making you think them, use anger to tell the thoughts to leave you alone as they have no business in your mind) anything so that the thoughts can't loiter in your mind. I do this all the time and have done all the examples I mentioned at various times.

If they are not just thoughts but workable plans, it is best to talk to someone (you do not have to tell them any details of the plans, just that you have a suicide plan and are frightened). It is a good idea to go to the emergency room and have them place you in the psychiatric ward on a 72 hour hold (this is what I did in 2013).

If you don't tell anyone it will only get worse. Try talking to your best friend about what's bothering you or find something that makes you so happy that the depression goes away.
