Go to the control panel and troubleshoot it.
To the computer metal case, or you can buy a wireless anti-static wrist band.
When you start the computer you will have the hard disk test the computer to make sure it is working properly so when it is working the way it should, you should be looking at the part of the computer most useful to you (either the desktop when Windows is installed or the DOS prompt if MS DOS is installed)
Yes, my computer is working properly.
Wow ! This computer is working
If you want to know if your RAM is working properly you could look on you computer information to see if the amount of RAM that is in you computer matches up with what your computer tells you. For instance if you know that you've installed 8GB of RAM in your computer and when you turn it on the computer tells you that you have 8GB of Ram in your computer it should be working correctly. Also there are tests that will look at your RAM to make sure that it is running properly.
If the computer belongs to you, then you can hit it with anything you like.Otherwise you should get permission before you whack it with anything.
Typically on a command line (or command prompt in Windows) you can type the command 'hostname' and it will tell you the name of the computer you're working on.
