What should you do when your hamster is sick?
well, when your hamster is sick you should contact your exotic pet vet. Although this treatment may cost more then a cat or dog it is totally worth it because it could mean saving your little hammy's life.
If you're hamster is sick, it will have reactions. Wet tail for example is a very common disease for hamsters, especially syrian hamsters. If you're hamster has wet tail, under the tail it will be dirty and if you're hamster is sick, you should go to the vet and ask if its really sick and if it is then buy some medicine.
A hamster can get sick by many hamster-only diseases. They can also get sick of many human diseases. Some of these include the common cold, a flu, and many more. Although, the disease is much stronger and dangerous fr a hamster than it is for a human. In the related links, there is a link to a page about many diseases a hamster can receive.
NEVER put the new hamster in the same cage, with same stuff! BOIL the toys, cage, in warm, soapy water for 30 minutes! If you don't you are most likely to have another sick/dead hamster :( The disease might remain in the same cage where the sick hamster may have touched, nibbled or made any contact with. Stay safe!
Yes it is bad. If water gets onto your hamster the special oils and or chemicals on he/she will wash off and then the hamster will get sick. If you have spilled water on it then I suggest you see a vet ASAP if you want it to live! Side effects from water on a hamster are: odd or strange noises, coughing, sneezing. You should clean its cage, even if you just did, do it…
No, not quite. It is only unhygienic if the hamster has not been cleaned, but dont worry. I never got sick from touching mine, and mine never bites. Just to be safe, if you get sick/ a weird feeling after touching your pet, send your pet to the vet, and if you do not get better, then you should see your local pharmacist or pet vendor.
