I have really thick red hair, and its really long, too. Just a couple days ago I got a big knot out of my hair that was really worrying me.
Its easier if its dry, but thats just my preference. Its also easier if you have someone to help you, if its in the back.
Start on one side of the hair, and grab a section. Put it aside if its not tangled, and clip it out of the way. If it is, do this: start at the bottom and pull it apart with your fingers, combing out the untangled parts as you go. Once you untangle a section, clip it aside, and keep moving along. If its REALLY knotted, or you have a sensitive scalp, or for some reason this doesnt work, use milk in your hair. If that doesnt work, then go to the hairdresser. Theyll help.
