Only clean it with very mild soaps if it actually gets dirty, otherwise simply run warm, clean water over it once or twice a day (in the shower is fine) to rinse away "crusties." Soaking with warm saline solution (pure, isotonic saline, not contact solution) or a mixture of 1/4 TeaSPoon of non-iodized sea salt and 1 cup of warm water can help with any irritation and swelling, as well as promoting blood flow and proper drainage, which will slightly speed up healing. DO NOT rotate or play with the jewelry, regardless of what you may have heard from people who do not know better, there is no risk of the piercing growing to your jewelry unless it is made of some porous material like acrylic plastic or wood, so you are only damaging the freshly formed cells and forcing your body to start the healing of that area from square one. Most importantly though: Don't touch it!

There is nothing you can do about it, It wasn't very smart though, just tell them it is new, and as soon as it is healed, you won't wear it to school!

If they are newly pierced, then they weren't healed all the way OR your skin healed to the bar of the earring. This can happen if you don't turn your earrings everyday. Just put the jewelry back in and be sure to clean and spin them twice a day for a week or two then try again.
