If your removing the fuel tank, then you do not have to bother the truck bed to do that. The bed is not in the way cause the tank comes out from the bottom.
you should be able to remove the bed of the truck. take the bolts out of the bed and it should come off. easy access to your fuel tank.
It is inside the fuel tank and can only be accessed by removing the bed or dropping the tank. I suggest removing the bed. You should have help.
You can either remove the bed, or use a transmission jack to lower the tank. I find it easier for a shade tree mechanic to remove the bed. Either way you have to access the pump on top of the fuel tank.

The bed was built around an olive tree, using the tree as the center post. Moving the bed would require uprooting the tree, or cutting it down.
A short bed would have a 26 gallon tank and a long bed would have a 32 gallon tank.
All short bed models have a 26 gallon tank. All long bed models have a 34 gallon tank.
8 bolts from bed to frame, drop tank, disconect tail lights, remove tank fill tube, lift bed....done.
The stock fuel tank on that truck was inside the frame rails between the back of the bed and the rear axle with the filler on the driver's side of the bed. That should be your primary, but if someone could easily change things when they add a tank.
