There are no 'sicknesses' you can catch there: once everyone in your group is over their colds, there are no more cold germs to catch, for example.

However, your body can react to the extreme cold environment and you may develop hypothermia, or some form of altitude sickness, depending on the elevation at which you work.

Before being hired to work and live in Antarctica, humans undergo rigorous physical and mental heath screening.

However, during transit to the assigned research station, a worker may catch a cold. Luckily, once the worker is over the cold, there are no more colds: the germs cannot survive in the extreme cold.

One can safely say that diseases in Antarctica are uncommon.

Because of the cold, there are no communicable diseases that one can catch in Antarctica. Strictly, this is based on only employing disease-free workers to work in the research stations.

One can, however, develop a disease -- either from an accident or from an undetected disease a person brought with them to the ice.

Generally, for humans, bacteria does not survive in the extreme cold of Antarctica. This means that once everyone recovers from colds, for example, there are no more colds to catch.

In order to work in Antarctica one must pass a rigorous physical, so anyone with a disease will not pass the physical and will not be eligible to be hired.

Lethal hypothermia is the only predictable human condition in Antarctica. It's too cold there to support any kind of 'disease'.
