Driver's side front
passenger side front of cylinder head
Passenger side on the very front of the engine.
Ford 302 the #1 cylinder is on the passenger side front. Chevy 302 the #1 cylinder is on the driver's side front. Remember the standard 302 Ford uses this firing order: 302 FIRING ORDER 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 The 302 HO however uses the 351 firing order which is: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Looking at the motor compartment from the front of the truck, the number one cylinder is the first on the left (passenger side)of the motor.
The location of number one cylinder depends on the manufacturer of the engine. For example, a Ford 302 and a Chevrolet 350 have number one cylinders on opposite sides.
For a 1989 Ford 302 cubic inch V8 engine : The # 1 cylinder is at the front / passenger side of the engine firewall 4 - 8 3 - 7 2 - 6 1 - 5 front of vehicle
The first cylinder from the front on the vehicles right side(passenger).
firewall 4 - 8 3 - 7 2 - 6 1 - 5 front The number one cylinder location on the 302 does not change but the firing order changes. H.O. 302 differs from the standard 302 truck motors.
On a Ford 302 V8 engine : firewall 4 - 8 3 - 7 2 - 6 1 - 5 front of vehicle
The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap of a 1972 Ford 302 cubic inch V8 engine faces to the rear and slightly towards the drivers side ( if that's what you are referring to )
Not only is the firing order different on the 302 and 302HO engines, but Ford also numbers its cylinders differently than GM engines. The # 1 cylinder on a Ford 302 is passenger side front plug.
