One of the main signs that you have purchased a cheap tent is that you have not paid much money for it. A cheap tent may not be well sealed against the weather. A cheap tent will generally not last as long as a well made tent.
Two options to choose from are The New York Tent Company (nytent.com) and Tent & Trails (tenttrails.com).
This manual should have come with the tent when you purchased it. If you can no longer find it, visit the manufacturer website for assistance.
A camping footprint is designed to go outside, and underneath the tent. Additionally if the footprint was purchased with the tent, it will often be the exact shape of the tent and will have holes in the corners which the tent poles are often designed to go through, securing the footprint in place. When the footprint is under the tent it should help to prevent the bottom of the tent from getting wet. Also the shiny side goes up (the waterproof coating). This is to protect the waterproof quality of the footprint. -Mr. Tent
I would have to say that anyone who camps would buy a tent so it is a frequently purchased item, but those who camp all the time would need other accessories that need to be replaced more often then tents, making those items the most frequently purchased.
When planning a camping trip, choose cheap camping gear that is durable. Buy a tent that is large enough for every family member. Place a plastic tarp under your tent to prevent sticks and stones from penetrating the bottom of the tent. To keep the inside of the tent clean, place an old towel in front of the entrance. Ask family members to remove their shoes before going inside the tent. When you buy a new tent, set it up at home before going camping. Check the seams with the water hose to check for leaks. If the tent leaks, you can buy a tent sealant at your local hardware store. Buy a flashlight for small children to sooth their fears of the dark.

Children's tents can be purchased in a number of places. If it is just summer camp, and you can guarantee dry weather you can pick up a relatively cheap single skin tent from Argos or Millets. One should note however; single skin tents do not allow adequate airflow and so condensation will build up on the inside of the tent, making it wet. Many people think it is a leak but there is nothing anyone can do. If you are expecting rain, look at a double skinned tent with a hydrostatic head of 1500mm or higher. If properly erected this will ensure everything inside the tent remains dry. These are available from Blacks, Ellis Brigham, GO Outdoors or Cotswolds and come in a range of types. For children; the easiest to put up would be a dome tent.
