Catalina Caper was created in 1967.
In the 1967 Type 1 Beetle you had the 1500 cc engine, the Type 3 had the 1600 cc.
The orignal engine is 429 c.i.
you could get any size engine in it that dodge offered from the 225 six up to the 426 hemi.
I believe that is ( 20 U.S. gallons ) in a 1977 Pontiac Catalina
It depends on if your looking to find a 1967 engine, matching #s and the size. You can easily get a GM crate v-8 for around $3,000 that made more than the original engine.
1967 1600cc Type 3
The 350 is a GM engine made from 1967 to 2003 which is actually 349.57 cubic inches or 5.73 liters.
Most Catalina's were equipped with a 389 cubic inch V-8 engine. The 2+2 sport models had a 421 cubic inch engine. The 389 engines came in different configurations that affected the horsepower rating. Open the hood and face the engine. On the front, left side (as you face it) of the engine block is a two letter engine code. You can reference that code against another source and determine a lot of other information about the engine.
the thermostat is located in between the water mouth on top of the intake manifold and the manifold its self..
The letter "U" in an engine # means it came from a Type 3 car (Fastback,Squareback or Variant) from late 1967 to late 1972. Fuel injection started in 1967 and it is a 1600 with 12v. That's all I can tell you with one letter.
