Quoting the manual: 6lbr5132eq1 "MAGIC CLEAN* LINT FILTER Your washer has a MAGIC CLEAN lint filter at the bottom of the basket. Wash and rinse water flow over the filter during agitation, separating the lint from the water. The lint spins out of the system during the spin part of the cycle. If your washer drains into a tub, remove any lint collected in the tub or strainer." Find the manual at > shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search.jsp
Sounds like a venting problem. The washer is trying to push the water down the drain and the tub is an easier route. When it stops pumping, the washer drain become the vent and lets the air escape. You can try some drain cleaner in the tub and the washer drains. This may open it enough to help.
I have seen a whirlpool near a cliff. When the water goes through a hole in the cliff that is underwater the water spins like what you see in the toilet or going down the drain in the tub.
