My 98 are 15 inch...I think the 97 is the same. If you want to modify it, you might try going to the tire rack (tirerack.com).

Yes they will, bolt right on. My1995 Suburban has 5 lug rims and I have a co-worker who has a 2008. His has 6 lug rims. His would not fit mine.

The factory rims are 16 inch diameter. 245/75 r 16 is a common tire size.

Depends. All tires have a size on them, so the questions of the year of vehicle is irrelevant. If the size of the 1997 Explorer is the same size of the 1982 Chevy Van, then they are both interchangeable. The problems if any will be in the rims. But if the rims are different then the tires would be different too.
