k050705 without AC k050835 with AC Carquest part #s
The way it fits around and on top of the pulleys.
nothing more than a glorified 1/2 " ratchet (sometimes 3/8") tool that fits in idler pulley on belt system to remove/install serpentine belt. Good Luck.
There is a spring loaded tensioner near the top of the belt. Insert a wrench (whatever fits the job) and pull/push against it. Remove the belt.
There is a spring loaded tensioner that holds the tension on the belt. Get a wrench that fits the nut on the tensioner and apply alot of clockwise pressure that will losen the tensioner and allow the belt to go on and off.
Use a belt that is about 12 inches shorter. pete duralast (auto zone) 775k6 fits just fine. just bypass the A/C with the belt. Rog
Some have a indent that fits 3/8 ratchet on base of arm
All serpentine belts have some kind of tension relief pully or mechanism. Buy a $20. repair manual. Relieve the tension as indicated, probably with a ratchet & socket and pull off the belt. You can draw a diagram before you remove it. To slide the new belt on you have to release the tension again, then engage. When putting the belt on it helps to remember that the smooth side of the belt will meet the smooth pulleys, and the track or ridged belt side fits into the ridged pulleys.
serpentine belt is located to the to the left side of the engine when standing in front of the car. locate the tensioner (it looks like a pulley with a short metal arm attachiing it to the engine. in the center of that pulley you take and wrench that fits that nut(i think a 15mm)then pull the wrench towards you taking tension off the belt, making sure you reroute the belt in the right way, do the same with the tensioner to allow slack to put the new belt on.
This does not have a multiple belt system like the older cars. This has a serpentine belt. 1 belt to drive all vehicle accessories. The auto tensioner is located on the right side of the engine (pass side) take a 15mm socket or wrench and put it on the only pulley it fits on. note the belt routing, remove belt. reverse to reinstall new belt.
put a socket wrench,on belt tensioner, there should be a small square hole there, that fits a socket wrench, lift upwards, careful not to slip wrench, then belt should lift up and come off, slide on new belt, lift upwards again, then let down slowly once belt is on.your done.easy.
From a standard socket wrench, the square part that fits inside the socket also fits in the center of the idler pulley (rather than buying a special tool that does the same). Fit the socket wrench (without the socket) in the idler pulley and turn to move the idler pulley and loosen the belt. Remove he old belt. Move the idler pulley again and put the new belt on. The diagram for the belt is on a sticker under the hood on the body above the grille.
