Slugs and shot are simply the contents of the packaged shotshells. Any shotshell can be filled with shot of various sizes, including 00 buck or with slugs and any shotgun (single shot; pump, double or automatic) that will chamber that shell can shoot those loadings. One caution is that slugs and buckshot should not be used in shotguns fitted with full chokes. Modified chokes and improved cylinders are probably OK, and full chokes can be used with birdshot (smaller pellets).

Rifled slugs are actually INTENDED for smoothbore shotguns. Sabot slugs are intended for rifled shotguns. Performance will vary from gun to gun, but Modified choke seems to give the best accuracy with rifled slugs for many shotguns.

You should check with the barrels manufacturer about it's ratings, but I've never seen a slug barrel that wouldn't handle lead slugs.If you're talking about using shot shells...Since shot is contained in a wad, it never actually touches the walls of the barrel as it travels down it. The shot won't damage the riffling in the barrel, but since a slug barrel doesn't have the same choke as a shot barrel, and the wad in a shot shell isn't designed to spin, the shot pattern is going to be messed up.It's not a good idea.
