Yes and Yes.
Yes, infact, slap sounds better on a 5 string bass than it does on a 4 string in my opinion.
Ronald Presley plays a 4 string bass...I know, I jam with him!
to finger a bass guitar, you rest your thumb on one of the pickups and pluck with your fingers. that is for the E string if you play on the A String you move your thumb down to the E string and play every time you p;ay on a string, your thumb will be on the string above it.
Cello, guitar, bass

Double Bass
Is there any body out there knows how to play a 8 string bass guitar. I pick up and there is no musical books on hoe to play one I need some help.
yes, much. the bass is the lowest string instrument, and the violin is the highest.
Not necessarily, whether or not a person should be playing a 5 string bass is totally subjective. For some people, beginner or not, that extra string can be too much. For others an extra string isn't going to be much more difficult than a 4 string bass. What it really comes down to is personal preference, if a beginner bass player wants to play a 5 stringer than why not?
To extend the range of your double bass, you can add an E string extension, which allows you to play lower notes by providing an extra string tuned to E.
they are both eqaully challenging
