zebra mussel are a great nuisance to peopl.
the can grow so densely that they block pipelines, clogging water intakes of municipal water supplies, and hydroelectric companies
Zebra mussel had killed 10 thousand birds.
The Great Lakes are a water resource, and large pipes are placed in the lakes to obtain water. Zebra mussels become attached around the opening of these pipes and clog them.
there are 2 theories. some people think they came in ballast water tanks but some people think that it was brought here on purpose because the Round Goby eats the Zebra Mussel(another invasive specie) and the Zebra mussel was in the Great Lakes first so people think that someone brought them here to take care of the zebra mussel invasion but as it turns out, the Round Goby became invasive as well and sorta helped the "zebra mussel invasion".

What are some positive and negative things about about living in Sparta?
everything is negative
A non-native invasive species refers to any species that originates abroad but is introduced to a new territory, resulting in ecological, environmental and/or economic destruction. Often, the introduction of the invasive species is the result of human travel or transport which allows a species to "hitch a ride" to new areas they would not have otherwise visited. A perfect example in the US is the Zebra Mussel, a small mussel native to Eurasia. However, it is believed that the Zebra Mussel migrated to the United States in the ballast water of ships (which subsequently released them into US waterways). Since their introduction in the late 1980's, the Zebra Mussel has been responsible for clogging power plant water intake systems, blocking pipelines, changing water quality and threatening the existence of several species of native clams and mussels. (In their defense, they are also very effective at filtering pollutants out of the water which, in some areas, has increased the populations of native fish species.)
As filter-feeders, they take in water and filter out algae as food, excreting their waste as sediment. A single individual can filter 1 liter of water each day, and a colony covering 1 square meter of substrate can filter 180 million liters of water per year. Enormous colonies of zebra mussels can reduce the algal populations of lakes and rivers, thus removing a significant portion of the base of the food chain and resulting in a decline in the fish populations. Thus, these mussels are a threat to the local biodiversity. The tremendous filtering capacity of these organisms may have some positive consequences. Zebra mussels have been a major factor in cleaning Lake Erie after a century of pollution from fertilizers and sewage. After the first 10 years of zebra mussel existence in Lake Erie, light penetration in the water has increased from only a few centimeters to nearly 10 meters. If these organisms could be controlled, they may become a useful tool in the treatment of sewage and pollution.
Zooplankton is found in oceans. The zebra angelfish and the zebra lionfish are also found in the ocean.Other creatures are the Zanzibar whip coral shrimp, zebra moray, zebra shark, zigzag cowry and warty sea slugs.
