Bill Haley and his band the comets are most famous for the song 'Rock Around the Clock', considered by many to be the first 'Rock'n'Roll' song.
It was featured in the movie 'Blackboard Jungle'. Another big hit for Bill was 'See Ya Later, Alligator'.
Officially, it's "Rocket 88" which Haley recorded for Holiday Records in 1951 (three years BEFORE Elvis recorded his first single!). However a few years ago an unissued recording from circa 1950 of him performing "Teardrops from My Eyes" was found and it's undeniably a rock and roll-style performance, too.
His last chart was in 1974 with another re-release of Rock Around the Clock.
In 1955 Bill Haley and His Comets had the hit song "Rock Around The Clock" The song was number 1 from July 3 - August 27 1955 and was the number 2 song for the year.
