Foaly and Root discover that Mulch is 'dead' but still have doubts whether he really is dead. At that moment, Argon and Cumulus discover that Artemis has made a 'fatal' error by not allowing permission to enter when he is alive but allowing entrance when he is dead. Meanwhile, the fairy council decides that Briar Cudgeon should take over Root as Acting Commander. Cudgeon then decides to send a troll into Fowl Manor to retrieve Holly by force. Butler comes into the foyer where the troll is and fights the troll with his Sig Saucer. However the troll delivered a fatal blow before he could do any significant damage. Holly, feeling sorry for him, healed his wounds, reviving him. Butler then fought the troll again, delivering ten shots at the troll. The troll became unconscious and Butler won the fight.
Holly is assigned to recon an unshielded troll, her first mission after the Hamburg Affair. She then has to save people as the troll crashes into a restaurant. She defeats the troll and erases the people's memory, but when a little child comes out of the bathroom she runs out of magic and doesn't have enough to shield. Commander Root sends her to a magical hotspot to complete the Ritual.
