Jim Morrison and the doors song, "Light My Fire".
It is Cat Power singing the Cat Stevens song "How Can I Tell You". According to Matador Records "No plans to release it as far as we know, so quit asking."
In the main menu of the game Guitar Hero 3, the background song varies and can be any one of a number of songs featured in the game, including "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine, "Before I Forget" by Slipknot, "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, and others.
The first of the two tribute tunes they play is "Whip It" by DEVO (this is the one with the fast hi-hat cymbals). The second song with the rattling gizmo that won't quit, then the second time they play it there's a heavy metal shriek that echoes... This song is what I am looking for. It's very familiar but I can't figure it out. Good luck. -Update- The first song they tribute (where they clap the sticks together) is Devo's "Whip it". The second song (with the workaholic rattle) is Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train". The third song (with the lighter) is Led Zeppelin's "Kashimir".
To me, I LOVE that song!!
