Beethoven composed a variety of music that people recognize worldwide. He wrote nine symphonies. The fifth symphony is very common. The ninth symphony has the Ode to Joy theme. Beethoven also wrote one Opera.
Beethoven also wrote well-known pieces like Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata.
If you listen to a lot of Classical Music, these titles will be familliar, as well as the music. If you don't listen to a lot of classical music, you may not recognize the titles, but heard the piece, you'd recognize it, but wouldn't know what it was called.
However, the above pieces are not Beethoven's "songs", but his other musical compositions. Beethoven wrote around 80 songs, actually known as "lieder", with piano. These were sensitive pieces, highlighting his truly emotional side. In many ways, some of these songs are seen as almost autobiographical, telling of similar events in Beethoven's own life.
He was also known for writing around the same number of Volkslieder, or folk songs.
"Eroica" (heroic), his third symphony. The theme of this symphony was Napoleon. Beethoven had been inspired by Napoleon, he venerated Napoleon. When Beethoven found out that Napoleon crowned himself as Emperor of France, he felt completely betrayed. He had hated emperors. His father had also worked for an emperor and this emperor had treated his father very badly. So when Beethoven found out what Napoleon's plans were, he immediately erased Napoleon's name from his third symphony and had an extra piece applied to it: "Marche funèbre" (the dead march). This way he showed how much he hated Napoleon. Beethoven meant to say to Napoleon through his "dead march": screw you.
Beethoven had dedicated his Third Symphony in E flat to Napoleon until he heard that Napoleon had proclaimed himself Emperor. In a rage, Beethoven scratched out Napoleons name from the dedication, and wrote instead; "Dedicated to the memory of a great man".
Beethoven wrote a variety of compositions.
Beethoven composed 32 piano concertos, including the famous Emperor Concerto.
He wrote 9 symphonies -
Beethoven was known for many other orchestral works. These included chamber music and overtures such as The Creatures of Prometheus, Coriolan Overture, Egmont, King Stephen and Zur Namensfeier.
Third symphony it was named Bonparte and then when Beethoven found out Naplolean's ambitions, he scratched off his name and named it Eroica
His original intent was to dedicate his third symphony, the Eroica, to Napoleon, but he removed the dedication and tore the cover page when he heard Napoleon had crowned himself emperor.

I think it's because Eroica means Heroic, and he wanted it to be called Heroic symphony in honor of Napoleon Bonaparte, but later on he erased the dedication to Bonaparte but kept the name.
Beethoven's 3rd Symphony, is the third symphony written by Ludwig van Beethoven. It was originally entitled "Napoleon" because Beethoven admired Napoleon Bonaparte as a liberator of the oppressed and a great hero. Beethoven eventually recognised Bonaparte for what he was and changed the name to "Eroica" (A Great Man). Full title is - Symphony No. 3 in E flat major, op. 55 "Eroica" "Op" is short for opus. Opus means work, so it is his 55th work. ---- == == Beethoven's Third Symphony was originally written in honor of Napoleon, but when Napoleon had himself crowned "Emperor," Beethoven was disgusted and changed the name to Eroica (Heroic). Beethoven's Third represents the beginning of his middle period, where he begins to understand and come to grips with his impending deafness. For some, Beethoven's Third also represents the end of the Classical period and the beginning of the Romantic period.
Symphony No. 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven, also known as Eroica, which is Italian for heroic. The piece is composed in E flat. Beethoven dedicated this piece originally to Napoleon Bonaparte but he changed that when Napoleon proclaimed himself emperor. Beethoven later dedicated it to the memory of a great man. ( as in the man Napoleon used to be, before he proclaimed himself emperor ).
Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 describes a walk he took through nature.
Eroica, Symphony #3. At the time of its premiere it was the longest symphony ever written.
Beethoven dedicated his Symphony #3, the "Eroica" to Napoleon Bonaparte.
That was something that Beethoven and not Napoleon decided.

No. Beethoven was disappointed by Napoleon's self-proclamation as Emperor of France. He withdrew his dedication of his Third Symphony to Napoleon, as he had planned to name it the "Buonaparte": instead, Beethoven named it the Eroica.

Beethoven dedicated a piece (the "Eroica"symphony) to a historical figure, namely Napoleon Bonaparte. Before he finished it, Bonaparte had himself crowned Emperor, which Beethoven saw as treason to France's revolutionary ideals. Beethoven then withdrew the dedication.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 (which is what I assume you're referring to) was intended to be dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte (and was originally scheduled to be called "Bonaparte"), but the composer became disgusted when Napoleon declared himself Emperor of the French. (The fact that his patrons wouldn't have been terribly happy about it may have had some impact as well.)Nevertheless, it's clear from Beethoven's letters that he had originally written it in honor of Napoleon, and still regarded it that way at the time of Napoleon's death even though he had retitled it and given it an ambiguous dedication. The fact that it was dedicated to the memory of a great man might refer to Beethoven's attempt to dedicate it to Napoleon, the Hero of the Common People (whom Beethoven admired) as distinct from Napoleon I, Emperor of France (which made Beethoven think that Napoleon was just another tyrant).
