Jimmy and John were quite into heroin by this time and RObert was under the influence of pain killers because of his recent leg injury. John Paul Jones was probably the most sober one there....

However, Led Zeppeling did cover material that she'd released (Babe I'm Gonna Leave You) but I think even that had been an adaptation of an earlier folk/roots piece. Yes you can be famous and not write songs. It is better to write songs. There are people who can write you songs or you can just buy them from people. Not all stars write their own songs.
