There were many different punishments. A known one was the "Scold's Bridle". This was a piece of head ware with i piece of metal which would have been placed on the tongue with spikes to place the tongue correctly. Boys under 14 would have been beaten by a "Birch rod". Another was to be placed in a secure room with no windows but with only Bread and water for a full 24 hours. lastly of what I know is that no one in the whole workhouse was to talk during breakfast, lunch or dinner! If a single word was to come out of their mouths, they would have the meals taken off them and you would be in isolation. Hope this helped!
