As of 1 July, 2009, your answer would be Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana, with a 4.0 tax rate. Delaware isn't typically considered southeastern, but may be within a sufficient geographical range of the question to be included, and has a sales tax rate of 2.07 (it used to have no sales tax). Oregon.... No sales tax Several States have no sales tax. But getting to what your rreally asking...it makes no difference. With minor procedural things, the way it works in all states is ht the tax is applied where the purchase (not just cars, but everything) is put to use. With cars it is easier than say a diamond, because it needs to be registered in the State. The sales tax is collected when you register/title it. If you buy it in one state paying tax there for some reason, and soon register it in another, the registering state will give you credit for what you have already paid (one way or another - sometimes you have to get a refund from State 1 yourself).
