If a telescope is facing the sun it is being used to observe the sun (our local star). However, solar telescopes are SPECIAL and have a filter in them to block the sunlight down to a safe level. NOTE. If you stare at the sun or look at the sun through binoculars or a telescope the strength of the sunlight WILL BLIND YOU PERMANENTLY.
Only if you tried to look direct at it with a telescope or binoculars. You never look at the sun using them without proper precautions, like special filters that can be used.
A special type of telescope called a coronagraph is used to study the sun's corona. Coronagraphs work by blocking out the bright disk of the sun so that the fainter outer atmosphere can be observed. This allows scientists to study the corona's structure, dynamics, and phenomena such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections.
Its called a telescope!
It would blind you to look at it.
No, it is not safe to look directly at the sun through a telescope as it can cause serious damage to your eyes. Always use appropriate solar filters or projection methods to safely view the sun through a telescope.
Do NOT look directly at the Sun, as this may damage your eyesight. Do NOT, EVER, look at the Sun through a telescope, as this is even more dangerous. The recommended methods are to use very dark eye filters. Any filters used for other purposes - such as welding glasses - may not be dark enough; better to get eye filters specifically sold for the purpose of observing a solar eclipse. If you have a telescope or binoculars, DON'T look directly into it when pointing it at the Sun; however, you can use the telescope to project the Sun's image on a piece of white paper.
Yes. Look at that bright yellow ball in the sky. It is the sun.
The most obvious answer to me is using them to look at the Sun. You know how a magnifying glass can be used to burn paper. Well a telescope is worse. Another one is when your leg crashes into the tripod that is holding your telescope. I have a big telescope and I did this and it hurt!
Galileo used his telescope to look into space where he noticed that Nicalous Copernicus was correct in saying that the Earth revolves around the sun. Which Galileo was arrested for believing.

It is not safe to look at the sun EVER, even during a solar eclipse, even when wearing sunglasses. You can make a pinhole camera for safely viewing the Sun by projecting it onto a sheet of white cardboard.
