Well, one belief is that you are given spiritual gifts by God, and if you use those gifts to serve others then they grow, and if you don't use them then they wither. Another belief is that you can cultivate gifts that you weren't given through petitioning God.
The main goal is to use your talents for others, not self gain. What one must do is reconginze their talents, know that their talents are not their own but gifts from God, and utilize those talents to spread the Good News and help others in their spiritual journey. Two ways believers may use their talents is to, if you are a good public speaker, write speech's protesting wrongdoings, preaching Jesus's teachings, or leading small groups in seminars. If you are talented with music, you could join a choir or play piano for your church or even be a part of a church band. Your talents can be used in many ways, but really what you want to do is utilize them and not take too much pride in them. Listen to God, pray, and use your talents to do His work.
