I don't know what you mean by the first civil war, but the US war, 1861-1865 war started for many reasons. One of them is slavery. Another is some of the states did not like the type of government that was enforced. Those were the main reasons. There were many smaller ones, such as, the Indians fought mainly because they did not like the other tribe. Some men fought just to get revenge. Those just scratch the surface.
