Colorado is called the centennial state, which was previously used in their license plates. It was named the centennial state, because it became a state in 1867, 100 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

It has also been called "Colorful Colorado" for its great scenery, and "Highest State", with more mountains reaching 14,000 feet than any other state.
