South Dakota is bordered by Minnesota to the east, Iowa to the southeast, and Nebraska to the south. Pierre is the capital city in South Dakota.
To the north of Kansas lies the state of Nebraska. Nebraska is bordered by Kansas along the southern edge, while to its north, it shares borders with South Dakota and Iowa. The Missouri River also runs along part of Nebraska's eastern border, separating it from Iowa.
Minnesota and Iowa. The straight part of South Dakota's eastern border and the part north of it is its border with Minnesota. Then the border goes east to the Big Sioux River and follows it until the Big Sioux River ends, and this is South Dakota's border with Iowa.

Missouri is the state that is south of Iowa
They are 8 of the 10 states whose borders include the Mississippi River. Iowa and Missouri (and Arkansas) are on the west bank. Wisconsin, Illinois, Tennessee, Mississippi (and Kentucky) are on the east bank. The river runs through Minnesota and Louisiana as well as forming part of their eastern borders.
