The original thirteen colonies that eventually made up the United States in its foundling state were mainly settled by English migrants, pilgrims, tradesmen, and adventurers, among other types. While numerous other nationalities were represented in the flow of colonists from the Old World to the North American shores, including an increasing number of unwilling immigrants from Africa, the majority could claim England as their original home.
Southern colonies
They coordinated activities among the American colonies in response to the increasingly authoritarian British rule. This fostered a unity of purpose among the several colonies, which had been deprived of much of their autonomy in the early 1770's. This ultimately resulted in the First Continental Congress. When war finally erupted in 1775, the committee members were among those who formed the new independent governments in the States.
The group that shared news among colonies was the committees of correspondence. With this group they were able to share news much more quickly.

The Northeastern United States consists of either 9 or 11 states, depending on who's counting. There are the six New England states: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island. Then the Mid-Atlantic states: New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, which is a total of 9. Some people also include Delaware and Maryland among the Northeastern states, which would be a total of 11.
