Yes, very much so. Originally, it was part of the British Empire, and was named after the English explorer and diamond-mine owner Sir Cecil Rhodes, who died in 1902. Rhodesia became fully independent of Britain in 1980 following a 15-year independence struggle, and changed it's name to Zimbabwe- Robert Mugabe has been it's President ever since then. Even after Independence, it remained a prominent and active member of the Commonwealth. However, following Mugabe's increasing despotism, tyranny and hostility towards Britain, Zimbabwe was suspended as a Commonwealth member, and is likely to remain excluded until the present regime is replaced.

The 1980 referendum in Zimbabwe was important because it led to the country gaining independence from British colonial rule. The referendum determined whether Zimbabwe would become an independent sovereign nation or remain a British colony. The overwhelming vote in favor of independence signaled the end of colonial rule and the beginning of self-governance for Zimbabwe.
The president would remain president. Assuming the President was also no longer around, the Speaker of the House of Representatives is the third in line for the Presidency.
