Suzanne Collins said in an interview that she was watching TV one night and was flipping between the news and a reality show. The stories on the news were mostly about the war, and she wondered what a reality show about war would be like. Hence The Hunger Games (a reality show put on by the capital about children in a war)
The Hunger Games did.
'Mess with us and we'll do something worse than kill you. We'll kill your children.'
The Hunger Games isn't based on true story, however, it is based on a Greek mythology namely Theseus and the Minotaur. The mythology involves where Athens (the Districts) were forced to send 7 boys and 7 girls (the Tributes) to Crete (the Capitol) and then delivered to the custody of the Labyrinth (the Arena) where (instead to fight to the death) they will be eaten by the Minotaur (probably represented by the Mutts), anyway, Hunger Games is also based on Roman Gladiator fights where participants fight to the death for entertainment... in conclusion, The Hunger Games has both Greek and Roman influence.

collins had a child love for greek mythology specifically theseus and the minotaur. in the story of king minos of crete he required athens to send a tribute to him 7 boys and 7 girls. the 14 were sent into the cave to kill the minotaur. the minotaur would kill all those who went in until thesus finally killed the minotaur.
I know Suzanne Collins started writing the Hunger Games trilogy because one day she was flipping through channels on her tv, and she saw a commercial about hunger problems in poor countries, and she saw a tv show about the Vietnamese war, and she thought of the idea for the Hunger Games. I LOVE these books so much, I finished the last one 6 months ago. Can't wait to see the movie on March 23rd :D
NO. Other than the vague resemblance to various medieval court intrigues, Game of Thrones bears no resemblance to any real world stories. The closest you could come is probably someones sarcastic remarks about modern office politics.

In "The Hunger Games," Cinna, who is from District 1 and represents the Capitol, uses his designs to convey a powerful message to the people of Athens. Specifically, he aims to highlight the stark contrast between the opulence of the Capitol and the suffering of the districts. Through his creations, he underscores themes of rebellion and resilience, encouraging the citizens of Athens to recognize and empathize with the struggles faced by those in the districts. Ultimately, Cinna's message is about unity and the potential for change against oppressive forces.
