The sound waves vibrate the eardrum, which vibrates the hammer/anvil/stirrup. That causes vibrations in a liquid in the cochlea. The liquid vibrates tiny cilia (like little tentacles), Those cilia transform the vibrations into electrical signals that get sent through you auditory nerve to your brain.
