glucose, iodine.. but not starch... its too big so i has to break down into glucose before it can cross the membrane

To maximize the rate of diffusion of a substance across a membrane, you can increase the concentration gradient by maintaining high concentration levels on one side. You can also increase the surface area of the membrane for more contact between the substance and the membrane. Additionally, ensuring the membrane is thin and permeable will aid in faster diffusion.
action potential
Diffusion across a cell membrane occurs when concentrations of a substance are higher either inside or outside the cell.
If substance A can diffuse across the membrane, it will move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration until equilibrium is reached. This means that the concentration of A inside the cell will increase while the concentration outside the cell will decrease, assuming that the initial concentration outside the cell is higher than inside. Eventually, the concentrations inside and outside the cell will become equal if no other factors interfere.

The carrier protein changes shape , shielding the molecule from the interior of the membrane.
Because an oxygen atom is very small and a protein is made up of lots of atoms and is therefore very large by comparison.
