No. I'm curious that you would use words like compulsory and yet not know the answer to that question. It's possible that some particular private universities might require this of their students, but in general, no, it's not compulsory.

There are several black students but I would say it is about 50/50 white and black students.

Because the weather is warm and it is a holiday season so lots of activities one would get to see. The beaches are at their best in summer. Some of the tours and activities are only operating in summer.
At this time of year there are a lot of University students looking for work during the summer. The students would be interested in painting, yard work and inside work as well. Contact the student employment center in your area.
Summer programs for high school students are mainly for the students would did not do so well through out the year. Meaning they could take summer classes to catch up and in most case so they can graduate with their fellow classmates.
The best thing to do would be to ask in your own college union for their advice because they often have listings of good summer jobs for their students.
