A star often shows a nation's capital on a map.
An asterisk (*) is commonly used to denote the capital city of a country on a map or in geographical contexts.

If you mean on a map it is a star. That is the traditional symbol on maps. Sacramento is our capital.
The symbol used to show an area of low pressure on weather maps is an "L." This symbol is typically accompanied by lines called isobars, which connect points of equal pressure to help illustrate the pressure gradient.
