i'd saay pick a nice bright color that will make your
red roan look great
i personaly find that my red roan looks amazing in purple,
blue and lime green, but that's juss my opinion..

Is there such thing as a gray roan?
Yes and no. The term grey roan comes mostly from the Jockey Club, it was used when horsemen did not have genetic color tests available to tell what color was what. Since a horse roans out as it gets older people found it hard to tell if it was grey or roan in time to list it's permanent color, so they would just say it was a' grey roan'. However the Thoroughbred does not come in true roan so the listing was false. There can be instances of other breeds being born a solid color, then roaning out a bit then suddenly they begin to grey,because they carry the grey gene mutation. So a horse can be roan then turn grey out over time. Remember grey and roan are both color modifiers and not colors in themselves.

The Jockey Club definition of roan is essentially the same as grey...which would mean that there would be a 75% to 100% chance of a horse that gradually turns white over a period of years reguardless of it's base coat color. If roan has true roan (Rn) genetics and the other parent is grey (G) we know that each parent has a 50% chance of transmitting their dominant gene (if both are heterozygous). This means that 25% chance of Roan 25% chance of Grey 25% chance of both Grey and Roan and a 25% chance of the foal being the base color only (base color could be black, chestnut, bay etc based on the parent's genetics at the Agouti and Extension sites). If one parent is homozygous the foal have that characteristic 100% of the time and the foal will also have the other characteristic 50% of the time.
