Nixon began his political career in Post-World War II America. His initial fame came as a red hunter--part of the anti-communist movement in America--where he challenged suspected communists and sometimes took them to court. After that, he secured himself a seat in the senate. During the 1950 election, he accused his opponent, Douglas, of being a communist. He easily won the race, but it is now suspected that he edited of modified some of the election results. He also secured himself a a vice-president position for Dwight D. I am not sure what you mean by his "real" campaign-- he ran for office a number of times. The first time was in 1996, when he was living in Chicago-- he was elected to the Illinois state senate, where he served three terms. He was then elected to the United States Senate in 2004. Mr. Obama decided to run for president in 2007, and made the announcement in Springfield, Illinois on February 10th of that year; but he first had to fend off a challenge from Hillary Clinton to get the Democratic Party nomination, which he secured in June 2008. All of these campaigns were very real and very intense, as was the presidential campaign of 2008, when Mr. Obama defeated John McCain to become president of the United States.
