A folding rule, inside markings, can do many things:

1) partly unfolded it will lay flat on a surface and easily measure distance from a corner;

2) draw lines parallel to an edge by folding into the shape of a "4" with the needed distance sticking out. slide the horizontal of the "4" along the edge, holding a pencil against the end (I drill a small hole at the 1/2" mark to make it easier to control the pencil - just stick an extra 1/2" out when setting up);

3) measure to points you cannot reach, because the folding rule will stay straight, whereas a tape will bend beyond a certain distance;

4) fold 2 segments around an angle and then carry it to your work surface to use that angle;

5) take an inside measurement by pushing against one side and marking, say, 20", the push against the other side and note the distance to the mark (and add the 20)
