No state in the US has educational or training requirements for a veterinary assistant. This is an entry-level position for veterinary staff and training is generally done on the job. There are some schools that offer veterinary assisting programs and "certify" their students however many of these are not overseen by an veterinary professionals or professional organizations and are often taught by people with no education or experience in the veterinary field. For people interested in enrolling in a veterinary assisting program, a wise choice would be to select programs offered by colleges that also offer an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited veterinary technology program or a veterinary assisting program that has been designed or approved by a veterinary professional association. Veterinary assistants are trained to take on tasks such as animal restraint, care and sanitation, basic monitoring of patient condition, perparing surgical instruments for use, surgical assisting, filling prescriptions, to know the basics of record-keeping, etc. But their training and educatiton is not as in-depth as a credentialed veterinary technician.

Which salary is higher veterinary assistant or vet tech?

Veterinary technicians are generally paid more than veterinary assistants. This is because veterinary assisting is an entry-level position with no requirements for education or credentialing and as such veterinary assistants are generally more restricted in the kinds of tasks they can perform and how much supervision they have to have. Veterinary technicians, on the other hand, are generally required to have a degree in veterinary technology, pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam and be credentialed as a veterinary technician. They typically can perform more tasks with less supervision.

Is being an assistant veterinarian hard?

"Assistant veterinarian" is not a title I'm familar with. "Associate veterinarian" is a veterinarian who works at a clinic but is not an owner or part-owner of the clinic; this job has all the difficulties of any veterinary position. "Veterinary assistant" is a lay trained individual who assists the veterinarian with non-technical tasks such as cleaning the exam rooms, moving clients and patients from the reception area to the exam room and back out and other similar tasks. A veterinary assistant's job can be physical demanding but doesn't have the same demands a veterinarian's position does.

Can a medical assistant get a job as a vet assistant without having to go back to school or having to get another degree?

Any one can work as a veterinary assistant. This job position has no formal requirements. Each veterinary facility has different qualification expectations for most positions; however, a vet assistant is usually a person who does most of the kennel duties, cleaning and stocking, greeting patients/clients and random tasks. A veterinary technician is something different that requires a person to sit for state and national medical boards. This is a very difficult thing to do with out an intensive two year veterinary technician degree.
