They remove cancerous tumors from the breast, both via lumpectomy and mastectomy, they remove cancerous sections of the intestinal tract (colectomies), and they create access points for patients to be able to receive life-saving dialysis. Also, if you have something blocked, stopped, kinked, or leaking, they can get whatever it is back working as good as new and prevent you from dying from something as "simple" as an incarcerated hernia (part of your intestine that's poking through the lining of your abdomen which can die and kill you within a few days.) In addition to the above mentioned procedures, here are just a few more of the procedures they do: appendectomies (removal of the appendix), cholecystectomies (removal of gallbladders - both "open" and "laparoscopic"), removal of fat tissues, colon resections and removal of all or part of the intestinal tract, and gastric bypass. They create colostomies and perform procedures that alleviate GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) such as the Nissen fundoplication . They also serve (in some hospitals) as Trauma Surgeons in cases such as gunshots or stabbings to repair any affected or injured organs and tissues.

∙ 12y agoSurgeons cut into people's bodies with the goal of remedying or at least improving negative medical conditions. Heart surgeons cut into the chest to repair heart problem. Orthopedic surgeons cut various mechanical parts to the body such as joints to repair injuries, or wear or genetic defects of the bones or joints.
