However the Royal Air Force was a far better fighting force than the Luftwaffe and there for crushed the Luftwaffe, a blow that Germany never recovered from. In this battle Great Britain and Canada lost 544 men along with 1547 aircraft where as Germany and Italy lost 2698 men and 1887 aircraft.
The Luftwaffe discontinued the battle because of unacceptably high losses of aircraft and pilots.
