Only certain tribes burn cedar. Cedar is considered by some to be a purifyer, and essential part of ceremonies. It is also used as a way of protecting the area from evil spirits. Other tribes use sage for the same purposes.
Hard wood such as oak or cedar. Cedar makes the best kindling. You can burn pine, it just doesn't last very long and creates lots of creosote.
cedar does but its harder to get started. If you get real cedar instead of juniper which is pretty similar but not as good burn wise. pine is easy to start, and keeps a decient amount of heat for the price.
