Keep a spray bottle of fresh water handy and periodically spray your hermit crab habitat with it.

As for the water, the first thing you should get is dechlorinator and a sea sponge. Now. Like, right now. Follow the directions on the dechlorinator to treat a good deal of water--enough to completely soak the sponge. Then, put a dish in his cage and set the sponge on that.
