Einstein's Theory of Relativity
In special relativity there is a relationship between light and space and time, or more properly light and spacetime. As the speed of light as defined in Maxwell's equations is determined to be a constant regardless of motion of source or observer, spacetime must warp in a certain way (time dialation & space contraction in the direction of observed motion) to maintain meaningful measurements that agree in a sensible way between reference frames having different motion. Using the right relationship, despite changes in measured rate of time and lengths in space between observers in different frames they can all get the same values for intervals between events.With distances measured in meters and time measured in meters of light travel time, the interval in meters is:I = √( X2 + Y2 + Z2 - T2 )
