John Foster Dulles is best known for his role as secretary of state under President Eisenhower. As with many others, Dulles believed in the US policy of containment regarding the expansion of communism.

He was known for his strong anti-communist stance, particularly with his policy of "brinkmanship" and the development of the idea of massive retaliation as a deterrent to Soviet aggression. Dulles played a key role in shaping US foreign policy during the Cold War.
In foreign policy President Eisenhower kept the containment policy in the Cold War and ended the Korean War.
