The US invaded Afghanistan in an attempt to wage war on terrorism, as Afghanistan is a hub for terrorists. The US is not at war with Afghanistan, but is working with the country to fight terrorism and keep Afghanistan out of terrorist hands. The same ideology was behind the Iraqi War.
Nothing. The US is only at war in Afghanistan, not against. The American and Afghanis are working together, much like the Americans and Iraqis, to fight against terrorist groups within Afghanistan and to better the country of Afghanistan.

It was believed that a terrorist leader named Osama Bin Laden was using Afghanistan's instability as a way to stay hidden. The United States' initial goal when deploying soldiers to Afghanistan was to capture Osama Bin Laden and destroy the terrorist group he belonged to (Al Qaeda).
When he betrayed the us he became in our minds a terrorist. He was always a terrorist in some perspective just during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan we helped him out as our ally

After the terrorist group al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the September 11th Attacks, the US Military invaded the country of Afghanistan with the mission to dismantle the terrorist organization. The US also stated its goal to remove the unstable Taliban Regime from power in Afghanistan in order to create a more viable democracy.
