Metropolitan Transit Authority= branches include Metro North ( former NY Central commuter suburban lines)- the three main subway lines- IRT ( Interborough Rapid Transit) Ind- independent Lines, and BMT- Brooklyn-Manhattan Transfer. it should be noted right off the PATH system is NOT a part of the MTA> Path is Port Authority Trans-Hudson- formerly H&M lines- Hudson and Manhattan. in New York- SUBWAY is restricted to the three lines mentioned above, never PATH_ which is either PATH or (Hudson Tubes). The various Ferry systems ( now) are independent.
