The arya samaj follows the Vedic Vivaha Samskaravidhi which is included in the book of the sixteen samskaras - sacraments written by Svami Dayanand Sarasvati. Svami ji revived the lost samskaras. The vedic samskaras and their procedures are written in the ancient samskrita treatises called Grihya Sutras. There are several Grihya Sutras. Svamiji quotes and follows these texts.
Some of the improtant points are; the boy and the girl should be young and they should have completed the stage of brahmacharya - student life. They should not be children of the same family. They should be of the same Varna that is of compatible manners, qualifications and qualities. There is no caste cosideration. No dowry and the ceremony is held on any day of thier choice. The consutation of astrologers to fix the date is condemed as superstition and blind faith.
some important parts of the sacrament: 1. Welcome ceremoney - the groom is welcomed by the bride when he reaches her house with his relatives etc; 2. Offering of gifts to the groom and by the groom to the bride; 3. Lighting the sacred homa fire; 4. taking of vows; 5. walking seven steps; 6. prayer for blessings. here ends the first part.
